Snow Definitions

Powder: Light, dry snow, snowed in calm weather.

Pisted powder: Light, dry snow that has been groomed.

Pisted fine snow: New snow or dry blown snow

Hard-packed snow: Few days old snow that has been pisted a few times.

Pisted wet snow: Snowball-making snow

Ice: Snow has gotten wet and then froze again, hasn‘t snowed in a while.

Worked ice: Grounded snow, piste has been worked with a groomer.

Spring slush: Course snow, usually quite hard in the morning but melts and softens through the day.

Machine-made snow: Very fine snow, made with snow-making machines.
