We have had summer temps here at Hlíðarfjall yesterday and today, and it looks like the coming days won’t be much better. The ski area is open today, but it will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. This is an effort to preserve the snow on the slopes, and as soon as the weather cools again, snow will be redistributed and the trails will be repaired.
The area will reopen on Friday and remain open through the weekend. Cooler weather is forecast for late in the weekend and into next week. Some of the more optimistic forecasts even predict a bit of snowfall and frost next week.
As temperatures rise, the snow softens quickly, and shallow snow layers have been observed in certain areas, especially in the lower parts of the mountain. To reduce the risk of damaging the area due to rapidly melting snow, snow groomers will not be operating. Visitors to Hlíðarfjall are asked to be cautious, stay within marked trails, and be mindful of changing conditions.
The staff of Hlíðarfjall thanks you for your understanding and cooperation while we work to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on the mountain !
