❄️ Winter Break Update ❄️
The winter holidays are approaching, and many of you are planning to visit us for skiing, just like in previous years. Typically, this is one of our busiest times, along with Easter. However, this year is different. As you may know, the weather has not been ideal. We’ve had very little snowfall so far, warm spells and temperatures have not been cold enough for us to produce additional snow. Currently, conditions in the mountains are not great, we only have a few slopes covered with a thin layer of snow, and they are not at full width. Looking at the weather forecast, we do not expect snowfall in the coming days. While the temperatures should be low enough to prevent further melting, they are just on the border for snow production. We will continue monitoring the forecast and doing everything we can to keep the area open and maintain the best possible conditions for you.
Due to these challenges, we must make some temporary changes to our ticketing system to ensure safety on the slopes. Based on our experience during the COVID period, when visitor limits worked well, we will now introduce time slots for skiing:
• Fridays: 11:00–15:00 and 15:00–19:00
• Saturdays and Sundays: 09:00–13:00 and 13:00–17:00
Visitors with season passes will still be allowed to ski without restrictions. However, the sale of new season passes is temporarily suspended.
Given the uncertain conditions, we cannot guarantee how long we can keep the area safely open. Therefore, daily ticket sales will only begin after an assessment each morning:
• Fridays: Sales open at 09:00
• Saturdays and Sundays: Sales open at 07:00
We strongly recommend purchasing tickets online, as only 700 tickets will be available per time slot. If any tickets remain, they will be sold at the ticket office. To buy tickets online, you will need a Ski Data Card, which can be purchased at:
• Any ski area in Iceland
• Akureyri Swimming Pool
• Selected N1 gas stations:
• Akureyri: N1 Hörgárbraut & N1 Leirunesti
• Reykjavík: N1 Ártúnsbrekka, N1 Engihjalli (Kópavogur), N1 Lækjargata (Hafnarfjörður), N1 Mosfellsbær
Ticket prices are set at 5,500 ISK for adults and 1,600 ISK for children.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these challenging conditions. Stay tuned for further updates, and we hope to see you on the slopes ⛷️🏂
